Janelle and Samuel live in Ottawa, Canada's capital, but Samuel grew up in Montreal an hour away. Many of their guests would be traveling from Montreal or be visiting from China and Japan, so they decided to host their beautiful wedding in the beautiful Quebec city.
A unique industrial art gallery was the perfect backdrop for Janelle & Samuel's organic, romantic wedding. They are inherently contemporary by nature and wanted to find a space that they could make their own without changing the room too much. They love organic textures and mixed mediums and wanted to balance masculine and feminine, raw and refined - so we needed a space that could be flexible, multi-functional and original. When we found Parisian Laundry, a contemporary art gallery with concrete floors, 360 degrees of windows and a wood ceiling, they fell in love and booked it just based on pictures we found online!
This wedding flourished in its personal details, like traditional fans custom made by a family member in Japan to include persimmon trees (Samuel proposed to Janelle under a persimmon tree), a globe for guests to sign as their guest book since most guests were coming from all over the world, and even the emoji photo booth props made with their favourite emojis. The day was a beautiful, warm vision of organic floral arrangements, warm blush and marsala tones, and candlelight. The seating arrangement was even unique and encouraged intimate and warm conversations with everyone around. And if the seating plan didn't encourage conversation, our very strong signature cocktails - Janelle's bourbon cayenne lemonade and Samuel's Sake Lychee Martini - certainly did the trick!
The groom has many talents: he is a former break dancer, a concert-level pianist now in a jazz band, a mathematician and a skilled software designer. We brought a jazz trio to perform during cocktails, the guests were seated to the Harry Potter theme song (another mutual love), dinner was a traditional duck course, their late night was a famous Shwartz Montreal Smoked Meat station, and we even surprised the guests with a performance by Janelle and Samuel singing together (followed by a surprise professional breakdance performance to kick off the dance party!). It was quite the wonderful night filled with love and quirky details and beautiful moments. One for the records!
