Your Best Year at Dreaming Big

Your Best Year at Dreaming Big
December 06, 2016

Ah, December, how on Earth did you get here already? We’re still trying to figure out how exactly 2016 flew by so quickly—but, as we work on that, we’re ready to tackle the one remaining month we have left. As you’ve probably noticed this year, we’ve spent each month focusing on a distinct “Your Best Year In…” topic, and we happen to think we’ve saved the absolute best for last.

This month, we’re focusing on Your Best Year at Dreaming Big, which is such an exciting topic for planners and business owners, as so much of what we do is based on just that—our ability to dream. As planners, our lives are built on our ability to envision a better future for our families, to envision a business growing under our name, to envision—down to the very last detail—the unforgettable events we plan for our clients. It’s one of our greatest talents and something we shouldn’t overlook. Dreaming Big isn’t just a pie-in-the-sky idea we teach eager-eared first-graders. Dreaming Big is the only way we go from where we are in this moment to where we want to be one day. The importance of that is something we should never overlook.

I love today’s quote, then, for two reasons. (1) It comes from the one-and-only Cheryl Strayed who is an absolute pioneer in chasing your dreams as far as we’re concerned at Aisle Planner and (2) It talks about that oh-so-scary part of dreaming that so many of us hate to even mention—fear.

I love that, with this quote, Strayed looks fear right in the eyes rather than avoiding it. She doesn’t turn away from fear but, rather, heads toward it. She doesn’t shy away from its presence but, rather, embraces it as a sign she’s doing something right. When we think of fear in this way, it suddenly becomes a much more welcome notion. By thinking of fear as an indication that we are on the right track, it suddenly makes fear something we want to embrace, a presence we want around. Suddenly, we’re no longer paralyzed when it comes to Dreaming Big but, instead, are encouraged to do so.

So many of us think of fear as something to avoid (and, in many cases, it is). But, when it comes to dreaming, we should start thinking of fear or hesitation as something we want, as something that lets us know we’re finally dreaming big enough. That, fellow planners, is a powerful script-flip if I’ve ever heard one—and I challenge you to embrace that notion all throughout December. Download today’s wallpaper and let it remind you, every single day, that fear is an innate and welcome part of Dreaming Big...and, more over, that Dreaming Big is the only way we move forward in this world. Cheers, wedding pros, to Your Best Year Yet at Dreaming Big!
